Al Zawraa have officially announced the signing of their former star Hasan Abdulkareem "Quqia" on loan from Çorum FK for one season, in a deal fans have dubbed the "return of the prodigal son."
Qoukiya's return comes after a very short professional journey that lasted just 42 days, bringing one of the most prominent playmakers in Iraqi football back to the domestic league.
Hasan Abdulkareem bid farewell to Al Zawraa fans at the end of last season after losing to Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya 2-1 in the league.
At that time, "Qouqia" decided not to renew and to pursue a professional experience abroad, signing with Çorum FK, one of the clubs in the Turkish league.
However, Turkey's experience did not last long. Qoqiya sat on the bench in the first two rounds of the Turkish league against Galatasaray and Kasımpaşa, and did not get any playing minutes.
Sources close to the player confirmed that the decision to return was due to not receiving the right opportunity to participate and a desire to play regularly and regain his form, leading him to decide to return once again to the ranks of Al Zawraa.
Hasan Abdulkareem is 27 years old and is considered one of the standout stars of Al Zawraa during his previous time with the team.
During his years with Al Zawraa, Quqia was the architect of the midfield, providing the final touch and vision that made a difference in many matches.
The return now represents a significant moral and technical boost for the team, especially since Al Zawraa is struggling with cohesion due to 90% of the players being new this season, according to club president Haidar Shanshul.
Al Zawraa's president Haidar Shanshul revealed that the player made significant concessions to return, signing for the club at "half the contract that the Turkish club offered him."
Shanshul said: "Hasan has never fallen short with Al Zawraa, and he is a great addition for us both on and off the pitch."
Without a doubt, Quqia will be the strong addition that Al Zawraa is looking for.
The team that started the season with two setbacks before achieving a big win over Naft Maysan 4-0 is now aiming to compete strongly for the Iraq Stars League title with the return of "Qoqia".
Al Zawraa fans welcomed the news with great joy on social media, considering Hasan Abdulkareem's return a "reconciliation" between the management and the supporters, marking the beginning of a new phase focused on competing for titles.
