The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has praised the perfect start of the Moroccan national team in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualification 2027, after the Atlas Lions secured their second consecutive victory against Lesotho with a score of two goals to nil on Tuesday evening, in the second round of the group stage.
CAF noted that the Moroccan national team needed to show patience against the hosts, given the organization and defensive discipline displayed by the Lesotho team during the first half, before Brahim Díaz succeeded in unlocking the match and scoring the opening goal in the 45th minute, giving the Moroccan team an important advantage before the break.
In the second half, Lesotho tried to get back into the match, while Morocco brought on Abde Ezzalzouli and Sofiane Rahimi to strengthen their attacking force in search of a second goal to secure the win and guarantee the three points.
After a series of attempts, Azzedine Ounahi succeeded in doubling Morocco's lead in the 82nd minute, taking advantage of a pass from Sofiane Rahimi, effectively extinguishing the hopes of the home side to come back into the match.
Morocco has increased its tally to six points from two matches, having started its campaign in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualification with a win over Gabon by the same scoreline, continuing to top Group A while keeping a clean sheet and scoring four goals.
In contrast, Lesotho remain without points after suffering their second defeat in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualification, following their loss to Niger in the first round.
