Jerry Cardinale, owner of AC Milan and head of the RedBird group, confirmed that the club will proceed with plans to build a new stadium with a capacity of up to 80,000 spectators during his speech at the "Bloomberg Screen Time 2026" event.
Cardinale said: "We have bought San Siro, the iconic stadium in Milan, and we will build another stadium with a capacity of 80,000 spectators," explaining that the project is part of his vision to develop the sports infrastructure in the city.
AC Milan and Inter have completed the purchase of San Siro Stadium and its surrounding area from the Municipality of Milan in November 2025, through the company "Stadio San Siro", making the area owned by the two clubs.
Cardinale's statement confirms that the future is leaning towards the construction of a new stadium instead of just upgrading the current Giuseppe Meazza stadium, as part of a broader project to redevelop the San Siro area, with 'Foster + Partners' and 'Manica' taking responsibility for the design and development.
Cardinale has also revealed ambitions to create a comprehensive sports and entertainment platform in Milan, which will include, alongside the new stadium, the possibility of hosting a team from the National Basketball Association and establishing its own arena, with the aim of boosting revenues and enhancing Milan's sports and entertainment status.
