Celta de Vigo are set to honor their legend Iago Aspas in a special way by naming the "Tribuna" stand at Balaídos after him, alongside the unveiling of a statue of the Spanish star in front of the stand.
A club official explained that the city council will place a statue of Aspas next to the Tribuna stand, adding: "Therefore, everything fits, and the name Iago Aspas will be immediately given to the Tribuna stand, as it is ready for operation."
Extensive renovations are underway at the Balaídos Stadium, where the Tribuna stand is set to be rebuilt, increasing its capacity from 5,500 seats to around 16,000. The stand will be moved back to provide the necessary space for the significant increase in the number of seats.
Preparations are underway at Balaídos to host matches for the FIFA World Cup 2030, after it was selected as one of the venues to be used in the tournament hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, alongside opening matches in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the FIFA World Cup.
The Balaídos Stadium previously hosted matches in the FIFA World Cup 1982, the last edition held in Spain.
