Josan Fernández, the captain of Elche, was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday after a complaint was filed by his partner accusing him of committing acts of domestic violence, according to Spanish media reports.

The 36-year-old player spent the night in custody at the Civil Guard station in Calyosa de Segura, where he resides, before appearing on Wednesday morning before the judge at the court specializing in cases of violence against women in Orihuela.

The complaint reportedly included WhatsApp messages described as abusive, along with images of bruises allegedly resulting from the violence mentioned by his partner. The two parties, who have two daughters, are going through a separation, while authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the case to determine potential responsibilities.

Gosan is one of Elche's key figures, having played for the team since 2018. He has made 263 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals, and renewed his contract with the club for an additional season during the summer. The case remains under allegations and judicial investigations, with no final ruling against the player issued yet.
