Olympique Marseille are experiencing a very difficult start to Ligue 1, having dropped to second from bottom after five rounds, following just one victory in the opening round against Strasbourg by four goals, before suffering five consecutive defeats against AS Monaco, Paris FC, Rennes, Beşiktaş, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Olympique Marseille's sporting director, Grégory Lorenzi, has confirmed the club's commitment to coach Bruno Génésio, denying any possibility of his departure in the near future. He added: "The coach is contracted with us until 2028, and we are planning for the future with Bruno, and there are no issues on that front."

Lorenzi acknowledged several shortcomings within the team, highlighting that certain player characteristics make addressing these issues difficult. He said: "The coach does not see a player slacking off, but there are characteristics in some players that create certain shortcomings that we cannot remedy, so we must try to make the best use of the available capabilities."

The sporting director pointed out that the team is also struggling physically and tactically, stating: "There is a statistic that says we concede goals 24 seconds after losing the ball, which means we have been too exposed."

He added: "There is another painful statistic, which is that we are the team that runs the least in Ligue 1. We are unable to deliver more in this area, and therefore we are thinking with the coaching staff about ways to overcome this problem."

This crisis comes amid a difficult financial situation that prevents Olympique Marseille from making new signings, as the club finished the summer transfer window without registering any deals. Lorenzo confirmed that the management is working to reduce expenses, including attempting to negotiate with players regarding salary reductions, cutting the number of administrative and technical staff, as well as lowering the costs of training camps and travel, in an effort to maintain the club's financial stability.
