Young Moroccan defender Moncef Zekri has taken a step closer to officially joining Sporting CP after successfully passing his medical examinations, pending the completion of contract procedures and his presentation to the media before starting training with the Portuguese team.
Moncef Zekri arrived in the Portuguese capital Lisbon last Sunday after all parties reached an agreement on the terms of the deal, which is valued at approximately €4 million, including performance-related incentives and bonuses.
The player was present at the José Alvalade Stadium, undergoing medical examinations and taking photos in a Sporting CP shirt, awaiting the final signing of contracts and the official announcement of the deal.
Moncef Zekri is expected to sign his contract with the Portuguese club today, Tuesday, and he will be presented to the media before joining the team's official training.
According to circulating information, Moncef Zekri, aged 17, will sign a contract extending for five seasons, until the summer of 2031, with other reports indicating that the contract duration could be four years.
Sporting CP has included a release clause worth €80 million in the contract, reflecting their bet on the young Moroccan player and his future potential.
The deal is expected to be valued between €3.5 million and €4 million, depending on performance-related incentives and bonuses.
Moncef Zekri has moved to Sporting CP from Belgian club KV Mechelen, in a deal that forms part of the Portuguese club's efforts to replace left-back Ricardo Mangas, who has transferred to AC Monza.
Sporting CP is expected to issue the official announcement regarding the transfer in the coming hours, once the administrative procedures are completed and the contracts are signed definitively. Zekri will then begin a new phase in his career at one of the top clubs in Portugal.
