The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has set August 6 as the date to hear the appeal filed by Algerian international Youssef Belaïli, challenging the sanction imposed on him by FIFA due to the legal and financial dispute with his former French club Ajaccio.
The case stems from a complaint filed by the French club with FIFA, accusing Belaïli of forgery and fraud, claiming he unlawfully received an amount of €380,000 during his time with the club.
As a result, the relevant committees at FIFA have decided to suspend the player from participating in any football activities for a full year, in addition to imposing a fine of five thousand Swiss francs. This has disrupted the registration process with clubs that were in negotiations to sign him.
The Algerian international hopes that the Court of Arbitration for Sport will either annul his suspension or reduce it to just six matches, allowing him to return to the pitch and resume his professional career as soon as possible.
This situation arises at a time when the future of Belaïli is shrouded in uncertainty, as rumors persist about his next destination. Reports have indicated that CR Belouizdad has reached a preliminary agreement to sign him, while the player has returned to Tunisia to resume negotiations with the management of Espérance Sportive de Tunis, exploring the possibility of continuing his journey with the team.
Belaïli's future is still open to all possibilities, with the ongoing competition between CR Belouizdad and Esperance Tunis for his services, without the player having made his final decision yet.
