Manchester United still see a long-term role for Luke Shaw, but they are planning to offer him a short-term contract, extending for one year or a maximum of two years, while they work on adding a new competitor for him in the left-back position.
Manchester United's desire to reinforce this position stems from an internal assessment that sees Patryck Durgo as more suited to playing as a left winger than as a defender, alongside Luke Shaw reaching his 31st year and nearing the end of his contract.
Luke Shaw could see his role reduced to that of a substitute if a new left-back arrives, with Tyrick Mitchell of Crystal Palace and Alejandro Balde of FC Barcelona among the options being considered by the club.
