Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that UEFA is in talks to support a candidate who will compete against Gianni Infantino in the upcoming FIFA presidential elections, a move that could lead to one of the strongest contests for the position in recent years.
According to Jacobs, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, has substantial support within certain football circles. However, those close to Al-Khelaifi have confirmed that he has no desire to run for any new positions, nor does he intend to relinquish his current responsibilities as president of Paris Saint-Germain and head of beIN Sports.
A spokesperson for Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated in comments relayed by Ben Jacobs: "Mr. Nasser Al-Khelaifi has no ambition, intention, or interest in taking over the presidency of FIFA, and everything being raised in the media is just media noise. He will continue to support global and European football institutions quietly and constructively."
This development comes as speculation increases regarding the identity of a potential challenger to Gianni Infantino, with the FIFA presidential elections approaching, amid anticipation of UEFA's stance and the names that may officially enter the race in the coming period.
