German coach Thomas Tuchel believes that the emphatic 7-0 victory over Croatia in the UEFA Nations League can help his team overcome the disappointment left by the FIFA World Cup.
England delivered a strong attacking display in Rijeka, led by the quartet of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, and Antony Gordon, achieving their biggest victory in history against Croatia.
Tuchel said after the match: "This is the only way to move forward, even if you still feel the pain. You have to play through the pain if you still feel disappointment; that is the nature of the sport."
He added: "We will always carry a scar, and we will always feel the pain and disappointment, but this is how we move forward. We made some adjustments after the FIFA World Cup, played the same way in the three matches, and we are improving, and most importantly, the team believes in this approach."
The match saw a standout performance from Jude Bellingham, who scored one goal and provided two assists, while Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka each netted two goals. Anthony added another goal and assisted one, before Morgan Rogers capped off the seven-goal haul in the closing minutes. Thomas Tuchel praised Bellingham's level, stating that the player "seems to have moved to another level right now."
The German coach described his team's performance as "complete", praising the hunger and desire shown by the players throughout the match. He said: "The victory was fantastic, and the performance was at the highest level from the first minute to the last. I was very happy with the attitude; we were not arrogant, but always remained humble."
England's triumph comes after their defeat against Spain 3-2, followed by a 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic, as the English national team continues its journey in the UEFA Nations League while attempting to build a new phase after the disappointment of the FIFA World Cup.
